How To Stick To Your Diet When Eating Chicken Wings

Blog

Chicken wings are a favorite for football season, parties and happy hour. If you love chicken wings but are on a diet, you might fear that you'll have to say bye-bye to your favorite snack until you reach your weight loss goals. This does not have to be the case at all, however. If you follow these tips, you can stay on track while munching on your favorite hot wings.

Order Baked, Not Breaded and Fried

When you're ordering your wings, ask if you can have them baked rather than being breaded and fried. This isn't always an option, but it's worth it to ask, and you can cut out a lot of fat grams and calories this way.

Choose a Spicy Sauce

When you are trying to decide between a sweet BBQ sauce and a spicy hot sauce, go with the latter. Many people don't know it, but spicy food can help reduce your overall calorie consumption and can assist with weight loss in other ways as well. Basically, the spicy sauce will make you more satisfied and will prevent you from overindulging. This doesn't mean that it's okay to nosh on chicken wings every day if you want to lose weight, but it does mean that opting for a spicy sauce can be a smarter choice than a BBQ sauce.

Munch on Lots of Celery

If your wings are served with celery -- or carrot sticks, or both -- then try munching on the veggies in-between each chicken wing. Along with cooling you down after eating a particularly hot wing, it will also help fill you up and keep you munching and satisfied without actually eating as many chicken wings.

Be Careful When You Dip

The chicken wings aren't the only thing that can be filled with fat grams and calories. Be careful about blue cheese or ranch dressing, which can both be fat-laden and caloric. Ask for a fat-free or low fat option when you're ordering, or buy your own bottle of fat free, calorie-free dressing to use for dipping.

Put Them on a Plate

Don't share your wings with the whole table without portioning out some for yourself. By putting your chicken wings on a plate first, you can help control how much you eat and prevent yourself from getting out of control without realizing it.

As you can see, you really do not have to say goodbye to your favorite snack just because you are watching what you eat. Chicken wings can be a part of any healthy diet, but you have to do things in moderation. If you follow these tips, you can enjoy tasty chicken wings without feeling guilty about it afterward.

Next time you go out to a place such as Luxe Sports Grill, ask if you can enjoy your hot wings in a healthy way, using the tips provided here.
